The Energy Engineer IV is responsible for providing technical assessments, including measurement and verification, of energy efficiency projects at industrial, institutional and large commercial sites. The engineer will work with program teams and facility owners to identify opportunities to save energy. The engineer is a technical lead and provides technical guidance to program staff, trade allies (contractors), facility owners, and less experienced engineers.


  • Works within a team to perform and lead other engineers the technical review of energy efficiency funding applications, including assessment of proposals and feasibility studies completed by third parties to ensure technical viability of proposed capital projects to achieve the anticipated energy and process improvements.
  • Manages and communicates information requests for clients/consultants to address submission deficiencies.
  • Reviews and advises on project baseline data collection, performs data analysis, including statistical and regression techniques, to establish baselines for energy efficiency project incentive contracts.
  • Prepares detailed, IPMVP compliant, measurement and verification (M&V) plans
  • Conducts pre and post project inspections of existing equipment and operating parameters or completed project installations.
  • Analyzes post project data with respect to the M&V plan, with potential to identify opportunities of improving future operation and efficiency, and prepares M&V reports of project performance.
  • Conducts walk-through energy assessments of industrial, institutional and large commercial facilities to identify energy conservation opportunities, recommends steps to investigate and provides written reports of findings.
  • Originates and produces complex engineering work that requires little oversight or revision from senior engineers or engineering manager
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of reports to manage and monitor project activity.
  • Completes significant projects on time and within budget
  • Maintains client satisfaction and develops client relationships including undertaking business development activities.
  • Collaboratively works with the multi-disciplinary engineering team to ensure reviews and recommendations are completed to professional standards.
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to junior engineering staff


  • Engineering Degree in mechanical, electrical, chemical, process or industrial engineering. 
  • Professional Engineering license in Ontario (or actively in progress).
  • A minimum of eight years of engineering work experience.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of electrical energy conservation measures in manufacturing or building systems.
  • Experience in an engineering services company is an asset.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to remain organized while handling multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Experience and certification in Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methods is an asset.
  • Identifies and delivers on opportunities to improve the technical work product and processes.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, particularly spreadsheet, word processing, Outlook and SharePoint.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with all levels of management, colleagues and external contacts. 
  • Majority of travel will consist of day trips within southwestern Ontario
